Supporting Lingen Davies Cancer Fund

Supporting Lingen Davies Cancer Fund up the mountain, along the trail and into the community

We have been particularly busy over the last month fundraising and raising awareness for our charity of the year, Lingen Davies Cancer Fund, including a recent trek up Snowden/ Yr Wyddfa for six of our adventurous team.

The trek which was organised and planned by Sky Blue Adventures saw our team of Jamie McQueen, Rob Rowlands, Steve Pillow, Georgia Evans, Mitch Lloyd and Jamie Pugh take on the might and height of Snowdon in the dark, setting off from the base of Snowdon at 3.30am to reach the summit in time for sunrise.  With head torches at the ready, it was not without its challenges, the weather proving a tricky adversary, but certainly a memorable experience for all that took part.

From the off the team were warned that they might not make it to the summit due to high winds, with gusts of over 50mph forecast. But they set off regardless, knowing that they might be turned back before reaching the top.  Fortunately, the wind was in their favour, and the Pipekit team reached the summit at 6:15am. A speedy time (wind assisted maybe) for a bunch of intrepid mountaineer beginners and although there wasn’t much of a sunrise, just fog, they were thrilled to have conquered the highest mountain in Wales and England.

The team took approximately five hours to complete the challenge, up and back down, and raised over £2K for the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.  An amount that goes some way to supporting the crucial services and work this amazing charity offers our community.

The fundraising and awareness doesn’t stop there though and October continues to be a busy focus for us. Just this week we ran a local community day at our head office in Shrewsbury, where the Lingen Davies LiveLife Cancer Awareness team, who promote cancer screening programmes in the community, spent a day with us.  We invited local businesses to us to drop in throughout the day and the LiveLife team were on hand to talk to our staff, visitors and guests about cancer; how to recognise signs and symptoms and promoting healthy lifestyle choices.  All of course with a helping of cake and light refreshments.  It was another great way for us as a partner to help raise the awareness to our immediate community, and something Lingen Davies Cancer Fund is keen to develop with other companies in the region to encourage more conversations and get people talking about cancer.  Ultimately helping to contribute to more people seeking GP support, getting an all-important early diagnosis and improving survival rates.

And finally, we are also preparing a team, headed up by our MD Martyn Rowlands, to participate in the Lingen Davies Titty Trail, a fundraising event taking place on the 12th of October. The event which starts and finishes at the Shropshire Hills Discover Centre, Craven Arms is a 10-mile trail taking in the stunning Shropshire hills to help raise awareness of breast cancer.

There are still places available to take part so sign up here https://www.lingendavies.co.uk/news-events/events/tittytrail and we’ll hopefully see you along the way.

We would be grateful for any donations, large or small to support the amazing work of Lingen Davies Support our fundraising efforts here!
