Salop Leisure heralds a network of local suppliers in the success of its new Love2stay resort in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.  The £4 million luxury touring caravan and glamping resort, that opened in May, boasted a roster of regional businesses in an attempt to support local suppliers. One of the companies that benefited from Salop Leisure’s local business ethos was pipework supplier Pipekit, an independent distributor, based in Annscroft Shrewsbury.  Pipekit supplied over 6,000 metres of pipework to meet the various requirements of the multi-facetted, environmentally friendly site. Working alongside local sub contractors, Broad Gas Services and Rowlands Groundworks Ltd,  Pipekit supplied a range of: MDPE, Floplast and Philmac pipework and fittings to meet both the water and gas supplies and underground drainage on site. Commenting on its local approach, Mark Bebb, Managing Director of Salop Leisure said: “Our aim as a business is to always use local suppliers wherever possible.  We found Pipekit to supply leading brands at a competitive price and with the speed and service levels required for such a complex project”. Broad Gas Services, based in Much Wenlock, was tasked with providing all the water and gas services for the site.  This brief involved the implementation of a network of pipes and Alex Broadbent, Director at the company specified MPDE and Philmac pipework, as well as electrofusion fittings from Pipekit.  Supplied in 20mm up to 90mm sizings the pipework solution was installed to address both the filtered bore hole water supply, that services the whole site including drinking water, amenities and a separate filtration system for the park grounds, and the LP Gas supplies to service boilers in all buildings. Commenting on the project Alex Broadbent said: “Salop Leisure asked us to use local suppliers and we went to Pipekit because they could combine locality with both stock levels and customer service”. Broad Gas Services was also responsible for servicing the renewables part of the brief, which sees the heating of all buildings undertaken via air source, allowing for a 350% uplift in efficiency over traditional means. Another local sub contractor, Rowlands Groundworks based in Machynlleth and who specialises in caravan park development in Shropshire and Wales, was selected to cater for all the underground drainage of the site and touring plots.  Richard Rowlands specified approximately 3,000 metres of Floplast underground drainage from Pipekit, ranging from 110mm to 160mm, to offer a solution that was simple to install and easy to maintain. Commenting on the project Rowlands said: “Meeting the underground drainage needs for an environmentally friendly, multi purpose, luxury development such as Love2Stay needed a product with a proven track record.  I have used Floplast countless times so knew it would offer quality results throughout the lifecycle of the project”. The 22 acre site, located on Salop Leisure’s Emstrey headquarters was designed to be an industry leading luxury facility and a business venture that will look to improve Salop Leisure’s sustainability in the future.  The site launched in May, unveiling 122 caravan touring plots and various recreational offerings which include: a natural swimming pool with water gardens; recreational fishing lake; children’s natural play and adventure zone; army style assault course; outdoor yoga facilities; fitness suite; a cinedrome and a wood fired pizza oven.  Soon to join this will be 11 luxury glamping tents due to open in late July. Speaking about the project recently, Pipekit’s M.D Martyn Rowlands said: “Watching this development evolve has been great from a local perspective but it has been particularly rewarding to know that we have been played a part.  We have supplied Salop Leisure previously and it was great to hear they were requesting local suppliers, where possible. Our team has worked closely with Broad Gas Services and Rowlands Groundworks to ensure that the orders were fulfilled on time and where required offered technical advice”.
